Staff at tp24, the low energy lighting company, dressed in pink on Friday 30th October to raise money for the 'Breast Cancer Campaign'. They also took to the streets, tempting shoppers and shop workers to part with their pennies for the price of a cake. They raised a total of £100 and would like to thank everyone who contributed. This year’s lighting show was once again a disappointment for anyone expecting a big selection of low energy products. There were a few stands with very pretty LED models which, unfortunately, were mostly unable to provide the lighting levels one would need to light a room and were typically at the very top of everyone’s budget (if you could actually get a price).

Health risks associated with low energy light bulbs

It is a fact that fluorescent light bulbs contain mercury. Over the years this has been reduced significantly. Today each lamp contains only a tiny amount mercury (approx 6 milligrams) and other toxic substances, such as cadmium and lead, have been removed completely under the RoHS requirement (reduction of hazardous substances). tp24 are pleased to be exhibiting again at The Lighting Show 2008.  After the successful launch of the tube and micro lamps at last year’s show tp24 have had another exciting year.

The Cambridgeshire based company was pleased to supply the lighting for a challenge taken up by celebrity, Tommy Walsh, which was to build an eco-friendly house in 60 days for just 60k for the Discovery Real Time Channel. The UK Building Regulations currently have a mandatory requirement that approximately 30% of the light fittings in all new homes are dedicated low energy.   Most builders will comply with the minimum number to meet the regulations, but McCarthy & Stone, Britain’s largest builder of private retirement properties, have taken the positive decision to increase that figure to 100%. In our L1 dedicated low energy solution the cap is very similar to a GU10 style 2-pin that you see on halogen spot lamps. The difference is that our cap has a hole in the middle of the lamp base and the lamp holder has a central male interference member or pin. This stops the normal halogen lamp from entering but allows our lamps to be retrofitted into a regular spot lamp holder. Read more...
